Together we are delivering a transformational change in data management for one of
Europe's largest transport company
Shell is partnering with one of the largest transports and logistic company in Europe who currently purchases approximately 90 million liters of fuel annually from Shell Fleet Solutions.
With more than 5,000 trucks on the road across Scandinavia and Eastern Europe daily, and each driver carrying a Shell Card – Forward planning & availability of information are critical in maintaining a good control of on-the-road costs and meeting commitment to their customers.
Being a forward thinking and adaptive digital company, they are keen to move away from an old-world model of once-a-day transaction data delivered via legacy technology, and onto a new technology vision where data is available instantly and can be integrated from multiple sources. Shell Fleet Transaction Data API is just the solution to help achieve this vision.
To avoid unnecessary expenditure, quicker access to drivers’ spending data was needed, as well as, the ability to retrieve location data on where the transactions are performed to ensure that drivers keep to agreed routes and deliver to the agreed schedule.
This challenge required technology which would allow for timely data tracking of on-the-road transactions for an entire fleet’s.
With Shell’s Fleet Transaction Data API, it is possible to:
This would allow our customer to re-use the same API to address multiple needs within their organization.
This integration was delivered in a pilot-first using AGILE approaches and it only took the team five weeks from initiation all the way to running pilot integration in Production!
The joint development team (consisting of a customer’s business manager, 2 customer’s developer and one Shell API specialist) is currently in discussion for a scale-up plan to gradually enable the features brought by Shell Fleet Transaction Data API to all companies and subsidiaries within the customer’s organization.
This customer no longer relies on legacy, batch file-based technology for obtaining transaction data and can benefit from automated and integrated data directly via Shell Fleet Transaction Data API. This has helped eliminate possibilities of human error and has significantly reduced processing time from days to hours.
Operational processes have been streamlined so that fleet managers can take timely and meaningful actions to minimize costs and reduce negative business impacts.
By building on our APIs, the customer’s company has vital up to date transaction data at their fingertips. It has helped them to understand transaction patterns quickly, detect fraud, control spending and optimize just-in-time scheduling.
