The Shell SmartPay API enables secure, contactless fuel payments directly from your third-party apps or vehicle infotainment systems at the site forecourt. It fully digitalises the Shell Fuel Card, allowing drivers to authorise transactions and pay for fuel from the comfort of their vehicle without needing to queue in-store.

Site searching (station locator): Quickly find nearby participating Shell locations and automatically verify the driver's GPS location at the station.
Prepare for fuelling (Pump reservation): Reserve and unlock specific pumps, optionally input odometer readings, and set maximum fuelling amounts prior to dispensing fuel.
Real-time digital receipts: Receive instant transaction confirmations and digital delivery notes directly to your system the moment the nozzle is replaced.
Cancel fuelling: Easily unreserve a pump or cancel a fuelling session directly from the app if the driver changes their mind or an issue occurs.
How the Shell SmartPay API works
By integrating this API into your driver app or vehicle interface, you create a direct digital connection to the Shell SmartPay platform. You can make fuels payments easier and faster for your drivers:
You first generate a digital token for a driver's virtual or physical Shell card. When the driver arrives at a participating Shell station, your app uses their GPS location to verify the site.
The driver then selects their pump number in the app, and the API pre-authorises the transaction against their specific card restrictions, unlocking only the allowed fuel nozzle.
Once fuelling is complete, a real-time digital receipt is instantly delivered to your system, keeping your records perfectly synced.
