What is the difference between a PayerNumber and AccountNumber?

Disclaimer
This information is for developers and B2B partners integrating Shell Mobility APIs. It does not apply to consumer accounts or personal payment cards.

Payer Number vs Account Number
A PayerNumber represents the main commercial entity responsible for a Shell Fleet Solutions (SFS) customer.
An Account Number represents a sub‑account linked to that payer.
Every customer has at least one PayerNumber and may have one or more AccountNumbers, depending on the organisational structure.

How to retrieve your Payer Number
Call the endpoint: GET /user/LoggedInUser

The response includes PayerNumber, which identifies the top‑level paying entity within your fleet configuration.

How to retrieve your Account Numbers (sub‑accounts)
To list all sub‑accounts linked to a payer, call: GET /customer/accounts

Provide PayerNumber as an input parameter.
The response returns the available AccountNumber values for that payer.

PayerID / AccountID vs PayerNumber / AccountNumber
Each PayerNumber and AccountNumber also has a corresponding PayerID or AccountID.
These identifiers can be used interchangeably, but for best performance we recommend using PayerID / AccountID instead of the numeric PayerNumber / AccountNumber.
